Subject: URGENT CALL TO ACTION: Save Fairfax County's Middle School After-School and Summer Programs

In February 2025, Fairfax County proposed eliminating $3.9M in funding for the Middle School After-School Program (MSASP) and VIP Summer Camp, putting 27 programs and more than 27,000 students at risk.

Because of strong community advocacy, thousands of emails and public testimonies, funding was restored for this school year. But the future is still uncertain.

Proposed Changes for 2026-27

  1. The County will no longer provide a dedicated funding stream for the after-school and summer programs. Instead, their funding share will be integrated into the yearly funding transfer to the school division's overall operating budget.

  2. Students will be charged a fee for attending after-school programs, with the revenue directed back to the County.

We need your voice again.

If you live or work in Fairfax County, please contact your School Board and Board of Supervisors representatives and urge them to fully fund MSASP and VIP Summer Camp. These programs are essential to students, families, and the broader community.

Your advocacy made the difference before, and it can again.
