Subject: Million Girls Moonshot Monday: Diving Deep into Engineering Mindsets

November is already here and like October, we're deep diving with Million Girls Moonshot into four more critical features of an engineering mindset: 1) evaluating and iterating designs; 2) persisting through and learning from failure; 3) working effectively in teams and 4) identifying as engineers.

The below webinars we will offer specific ways to build 21st century skills that are critical to an engineering mindset and for youth to thrive academically, socially and emotionally. Don't miss them!

Engineering Mindsets Webinars

Engineering Design Challenges Three-Part Webinar Series led by Technovation

Over three hour-long sessions this fall with Technovation, you’ll become an expert in leading engineering design challenges online that help students develop engineering mindsets: 1) use the engineering design process; 2) envision multiple solutions; 3) evaluate and iterate; 4) persist and learn from failure; and 5) work in teams.

Get ready for hands-on building during each session. You’ll be part of a supportive learning community. If you are looking for a way to step up your STEAM game in a fun and active way with your kids, this is for you. Help them think like engineers to build solutions to any sort of problem! These three sessions are for program staff (directors, STEM specialists, and facilitators) working with kids in 4th–8th grades.

Engineering Practices that Support Equity Part II: Recording and Engineering Mindset Activities

Engineering Practices Support Equity Part III

Tuesday, November 10 at 3:00-4:00 EST

This webinar, the third in a three-part series, focuses on engineering practices that help develop engineering mindset. As we introduce an engineering challenges designed for use in virtual or in-person afterschool programs we highlight four core engineering practices:

  • Evaluating and iterating designs

  • Persisting through and learning from failure

  • Working effectively in teams

  • Identifying as engineers.

We’ll explore the practices briefly and demonstrate how the practices can help create inclusive learning experiences. In small groups, participants will examine how the engineering activity can be implemented to support the practices. Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of the specific practices, an engineering activity they can implement, and concrete ideas and resources for infusing these into engineering programming.
