Subject: Exploring Space in your Moonshot Monday!

VPOST At STEM Next's Inspire Momentum Conference

Last month, VPOST joined out-of-school time leaders from across the country at the STEM Next Opportunity Fund's Inspire Momentum convening, where participants explored new ideas to expand high-quality STEM learning and strengthen career-connected opportunities for youth. A highlight of the event was hearing from former astronaut and physician Dr. Bernard Harris Jr. about his groundbreaking work in space medicine, followed by an inspiring visit to NASA's Kennedy Space Center. Together, these experiences reinforced the exciting future of aerospace and STEM careers and the important role OST programs play in helping young people build the skills, confidence, and curiosity to pursue them. (For some Virginia-specific aerospace resources, read about Virginia Spaceport Authority in this newsletter!)

VPOST is excited to bring this momentum back to Virginia through our STEM initiatives, including the upcoming R³ professional development series, which will help OST educators strengthen math confidence by addressing the emotions, beliefs, and mindsets that influence success in mathematics. Thank you again, STEM Next, for a wonderful event and your ongoing support of STEM in Virginia!

Resources from Virginia Spaceport Authority

Looking to inspire the next generation of engineers, scientists, and space explorers? The Virginia Spaceport Authority offers a variety of free STEM education resources that can help bring aerospace careers to life for youth in out-of-school time programs. Opportunities include classroom and program visits from VSA's education team, tours of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport on Wallops Island, and career exploration experiences that introduce students to the many professions that make space launches possible, including engineering and logistics, drone operations, and even marketing! Learn more about these opportunities at the Virginia Spaceport Authority's Education page here.

Sustainable Aviation STEM Toolkit

Explore NASA's Sustainable Aviation STEM Toolkit - a free resource designed to bring the future of flight into classrooms from Pre-K to 12th grade. This cross-curricular toolkit includes virtual and classroom-ready content on sustainable aviation, along with a dedicated Spanish-language section.

Perfect for educators looking to spark curiosity and connect students to real-world STEM innovation.

Hack Club - Activity for Youth

This summer, Hack Club is partnering with NASA, AMD, and GitHub to launch the Stardance Challenge, the world's biggest STEM challenge for teens ages 13-18. Your students can choose which technical projects to build (apps, games, circuits, hardware) and earn rewards like 3D printers and Raspberry Pis. No prior software or hardware experience is needed; both beginners and experienced coders are welcome. Just show the two-minute intro video in your class to get students signed up, and you'll receive a free Artemis II mission patch.
