Subject: Action Needed: Tell your VA Senator to Support Afterschool Gaps Study!

We need your help advocating for afterschool programs! VPOST recently completed the OST Access Map project to help understand gaps in the availability of programs across the Commonwealth. This is just the start. The Virginia General Assembly is considering budget amendments. One of them would require the Department of Education to study out-of-school time programs currently available in Virginia. This will identify areas where there are critical gaps in access to such programs, and develop recommendations for mitigating these gaps. Working parents need assistance and safe supervision of their children outside of school hours.

Please take a few minutes to email your legislator and ask them to support this amendment that has no cost. If passed, it would provide Virginia policymakers with the information needed to assess the current state of OST programs in Virginia and how to best move forward to expand access to more children.
