Subject: $4 Million for VA Afterschool in your June 2022 News!

VPOST is thrilled to announce that the Virginia General Assembly recently returned to pass a budget that includes $4 million in funding for 21st Century Community Learning Centers! The next step is for Governor Youngkin to make any amendments and sign the budget. The legislature will return before July 1 to act on any of the Governor’s potential amendments. This additional $4 million will be used to fund community-based organizations that provide afterschool, before school, and summer learning programs for school-age children attending high-needs schools. Thank you to all that wrote their legislatures letters of support and we commend the Virginia General Assembly for prioritizing these programs and expanding access to more children!

Afterschool for All Challenge

On May 17, 2022, VPOST's Virginia delegation met with the offices of Senator Kaine and Warner and the office of Congressman Good. An additional meeting took place on May 25th with the offices of Congressman Bobby Scott, who is the Chairman of the Education and Labor Committee. The delegation which consisted of VPOST staff, Youth STEM Ambassadors, and staff from NextUp RVA, made the case for sustained federal investments in afterschool and summer learning programs. There were discussions on the importance of investment in STEM, workforce sustainability, and school safety. VPOST is proud and privileged to represent on the behalf of the Virginia OST community!
