Subject: VPH newsletter - February 2026

Dear reader,

If you work in in silico medicine you are already shaping the future of healthcare. Whether you call it: computer modelling and simulation, AI in healthcare, computational healthcare, digital twins, predictive medicine. Different labels. Same frontier.

It is the space where mathematics meets biology, where algorithms inform clinical decisions, where simulations anticipate what the human body might do next.
And this ecosystem is growing fast.
Researchers. Data scientists. Engineers. Clinicians. Industry. Policy makers. Regulators. Patients. VPH exists to connect this ecosystem, give it a collective voice, and strengthen its impact across research and real-world healthcare.
If you are building models, validating simulations, developing AI tools, or translating them into practice, you are already part of this movement.

NOW, IF YOU ARE NOT YET A MEMBER, TAKE THE NEXT STEP:

JOIN VPH AND HELP GROW OUR COMMUNITY TO SHAPE

TOMORROW’S IN SILICO MEDICINE!

POLICY

Building the Advanced Virtual Human Twins platform with the user community

The European Commission has officially initiated the procurement of a state-of-the-art platform for advanced Virtual Human Twins (VHT).

ASME Releases New Technical Report Expanding on V&V 40 Framework

January 2026 marked an important update for the modeling and simulation community. The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) has released ASME VVUQ40.1:2026, a new technical report that provides a detailed example of applying the credibility assessment framework established in ASME V&V 40.

AI as a facilitator for realising the vision of the Virtual Human Twin

On 11 February 2026, VPH The Society for In Silico Medicine and the EU Health Policy Platform hosted a webinar on how AI can advance Virtual Human Twin technologies in healthcare. If you missed it, the recordings are available.

Launch of ISO-IEC JWG 14 to Advance In Silico Standards for Medical Devices

On 03 February 2026, following the successful approval of the new work item in 2025, the newly established ISO-IEC Joint Working Group 14 (JWG 14) has officially commenced its activities.

COMMUNITY

We are happy to present you the 2026 Board members that will guide VPH strategic priorities and initiatives supporting digital healthcare innovation worldwide.

VPH Executive Committee Interview Series: Michèle Barbier on Ethics, Trust and Responsible In Silico Medicine

In this interview with Michèle Barbier, a leading voice at the intersection of ethics, digital health, and social science, we explore how ethical reflection serves as an integral component in the development of in silico medicine.

Be the next one to organize the VPH conference

IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Decoding the metabolic orchestra

From brain cancer to neurodegeneration, researchers are building computational “metabolic twins” that reveal how diseases work and how to treat them with precision

THE DIGITAL TWIN THEORY PODCAST

20. When one-size medicine hurts women

In this episode of The Digital Twin Theory, Blanca Rodríguez  discusses sex differences in healthcare and how in silico medicine can help create truly personalised, gender-aware medicine.

YOUNG SCIENTISTS

In the first 2026 webinar organised by the VPH Young Scientists CommitteeCarl Whitfield from University of Manchester will present network-based models of transport in the lungs and placenta to study ventilation, perfusion, and transport processes, and discuss their potential for personalised and in silico medicine.

Join our Slack channel for students and young scientists!

To further strengthen engagement among young members, VPH has launched a new public Slack channel dedicated to the Young Scientists community. This space will allow students to ask questions, exchange ideas, and actively contribute to YSC activities. Access is open to all our student members.
