The report also highlights our extensive policy work, communication efforts, and stakeholder engagement activities, all of which have reinforced VPH’s role at the European and International level.

POLICY

Exclusive member-only briefing sessions on In Silico Methods in Emerging European Health Policy and Regulation

On 17 and 21 January 2026, the VPH Society is organising two exclusive online briefing sessions to present the latest updates in the policy and regulatory context and how this is effecting the in silico medicine field.

Commission welcomes agreement on major reform of EU pharmaceutical rule

The European Commission has welcomed a political agreement reached by the European Parliament and the Council to modernise the EU pharmaceutical legislation - the most significant overhaul in over 20 years.

Horizon Europe 2026-2027 Work Programme published

The programme allocates €14 billion to strategic research and innovation priorities across multiple clusters, including health, digital, industry and climate. Within Cluster 1 “Health”, specific calls include references to Virtual Human Twins (VHTs).

EIC Pathfinder Challenge on Biotechnology for Healthy Ageing launched

In November 2025, the European Innovation Council (EIC) launched a new Pathfinder Challenge on Biotechnology for Healthy Ageing under the EIC Work Programme 2026.


COMMUNITY

Belgian MEP Liesbet SOMMEN visits VPH Team

On 12 December 2025, the VPH Society hosted MEP Liesbet Sommen at University Hospital Gasthuisberg, Leuven. The meeting served as a strategic dialogue on the role of Virtual Human Twins (VHTs) and AI in securing Europe’s leadership in medical technology.

Interview with science-to-policy expert François Busquet from Altertox

In 2025, VPH collaborated with Altertox with the aim of engaging with policy makers in the European Parliament on the topic of in silico medicine. In this interview, we share insights on how to translate scientific advances into policy-relevant outputs.


VPH at the high-level meeting on Rare Diseases 2025

Our director, Prof. Liesbet Geris attended the event and contributed to the session on “Resilience and Reliability: Securing Rare Disease Diagnosis and Care in a Changing World" bringing the in silico medicine perspective to the discussion.

VPH at the XIV Italian SciComm Conference

At Italy’s leading science communication event, VPH introduced its In Silico Medicine Info Kit, a resource designed to support researchers in engaging more effectively with patients, clinicians, policymakers and society.

dealiiX Digital Twins Research School

VPH participated in the Research School on Digital Twins of the Human Body in Trieste, supporting the dissemination of advanced modelling, simulation, and high-performance computing approaches that underpin next-generation digital twins in healthcare.
