Subject: Winter 2020 ViPS Newsletter

A few brave performers ZOOMED their way into LRSD elementary classrooms on November 17th to remind students just how fun it is to discover a new book and share it with others. (Right-to-left) Kathleen Pate performed as Lady Liberty during her reading of My Left Foot. Superintendent Mike Poore shared Have You Filled a Bucket Today? with students on their feet in response. The wacky and fun Amelia Bedelia was introduced by Deborah Baldwin and Jim Metzger. Even Little Rock Mayor Frank Scott, Jr. shared his thoughts on reading, encouraging students to find something that excites them and read, read, read!

With volunteer readers unable to visit classrooms this year, ViPS focused on building classroom libraries. Well over ONE THOUSAND new books were donated by loyal friends and donors! Many wrote personal notes sharing their love for reading and encouraging students to increase the time they spend reading each day. Leigh Cooper, a teacher from Jefferson Elementary, expressed her gratitude: "ViPS Reading Day has always been a favorite day at our school. Thank you for making this year's Reading Day so special during these challenging times." Well said Ms. Cooper!

Bright Futures operates under the belief that when a community invests its time, talent, and treasure into its schools, students are more likely to stay in school through graduation, have a higher degree of self-worth and confidence, and set and reach goals for the future. A partnership between the City of Little Rock and the Little Rock School District, Bright Futures provides a path for communities to channel resources, supporting education and enabling children to achieve success. THANK YOU KROGER!

Central Arkansas Kroger stores recently donated over $11,000 worth of school supplies to the Little Rock School District.  ViPS staff was proud to sort the supplies and repackage items for distribution to schools. Over twenty school representatives responded to the December drive through pick-up to secure supplies for their campuses.
