Subject: Vibrato is not about control (Power Up)

A different way to approach vibrato (and why it matters)

POWER UP

YOUR MONTHY PRACTICE TUNE UP

May 2026 - ISSUE #3

Vibrato isn’t something you force.

Hi Friend

Vibrato isn’t something you force.

It grows naturally when the arm, hand, and mind are free.

Vibrato is not about forced control.
It is about organized freedom.

This month, I invite you to think of vibrato not as a sound to control,
but as a motion to understand.

When the movement is clear, the sound begins to follow.

If vibrato has felt tense or inconsistent,
it may not be a sound problem.

It may be a motion problem.

This Month's Power Practice Routine

This week, try this simple approach:

☐ Spend a few minutes exploring the motion without the violin
☐ Let the arm initiate the movement
☐ Keep the wrist relaxed and responsive
☐ Focus on rhythm and ease, not perfection

Keep it simple.
Stay with it for a few days.

Expression follows ease.

If you’d like to explore this more deeply, I’ve shared a full lesson and 7-minute routine here:

If you’d like more guidance, I’ve created a dedicated Vibrato Basics course where I walk you through this process step by step → Vibrato Basics

Never stop playing,
Marlene
