Family gatherings.
Changing daily rhythms.


While these shifts can feel joyful, many animals quietly experience heightened alertness.


They listen more closely.
Watch more carefully.
Feel more deeply.


During times of increased activity, animals benefit most from one thing:


A human who knows how to return to calm.


This week’s gentle practice helps you and your animal reset together when energy feels busy or overstimulating.


Let’s pause for a moment.

This Week's Gentle Practice

This exercise supports emotional reassurance during transitions.


Animals notice change long before we realize it.


Suitcases appearing.
Different schedules.
New energy in the home.


Even positive change can feel uncertain to them.


Today we offer emotional reassurance without words.


It takes only a few minutes — yet animals often feel the effect immediately.

Settling Together:


  • Sit comfortably.

  • Place one hand over your heart and one below your belly button.

  • Breathe slowly, allowing your shoulders to soften.

  • Feel your body supported by the chair or floor beneath you.

  • Gently bring your awareness to your feet.

  • Imagine roots growing from your feet, steady, strong, and supportive.

  • With each inhale, draw calm energy upwards through those roots.

  • With each exhale, release any tension or overstimulation into the earth.

  • Silently acknowledge your animal with gratitude.

  • As you breathe, imagine your calm energy extending outward creating a peaceful space around both you and your pet.

  • Notice your animal's responses, possibly settling, sighing, or relaxing nearby.

  • Allow this grounded feeling to expand.         

         

          Silently offer the message:


          "We are steady."
          "We are supported."
          "We are calm together."


  • Allow any emotions or sensations to arise and pass without judgment.

  • Simply breathe.

  • Notice one feeling present right now even if it is subtle:         

        

          stability…
          quiet…
          a sense of being anchored.
     

  • Allow that feeling to settle into your body.

  • Even brief moments of regulation help animals reset emotionally.


Reflection:
Before moving on with your day, notice the grounded feeling inside you.


Your grounded state becomes a safety your animal can feel.


Ask yourself:


How can I bring more grounding to myself and to my animal this week?


You can return to this practice anytime this week and let this grounding support you and your animal wherever summer takes you.
