This exercise supports nervous system recovery after a stressful event.
Animals don't process "it's over" the way we do — their bodies often need repeated signals of safety before they truly settle.
Today we offer that signal through presence.
It takes only a few minutes — yet animals often feel the effect immediately.
I invite you: ▶ Watch the 3-minute 57-second guided practice
Settling Together: Sit comfortably. Place one hand over your heart and one below your belly button. Take a slow inhale... and a slow exhale. Let your shoulders soften and your jaw release. Bring your awareness to the space around you both - quiet, steady, unhurried. With each breath, imagine any leftover tension from the past week draining downward out through your feet.
Silently offer the message:
"It's over now." "You are safe." "We are settled together."
Notice your animal's body - are they softening, sighing, leaning in? Allow this feeling of "it's truly over" to settle fully into both of you. Take one final shared breath.
Reflection: Before moving on with your day, notice how it feels in your own body to fully release something that has already passed.
Animals take their cues about "is this over?" directly from us.
Ask yourself:
Where else in my life am I still bracing for something that has already ended?
You can return to this practice anytime this week and let this grounding support you and your animal wherever summer takes you.
Thank you for sharing this moment with me and with your animal.
