Hello Friend,

Good morning to you this Tuesday.

It's finally warming up here in my part of the woods-YAY...I can nearly put my toque away :-)

-------------------------------------------
Helping your pet live longer
-------------------------------------------

Here's a BIG question- about our own health, as well as our pets.

What can we *REALLY* do to keep our pets healthy and prevent them from getting sick?

It's a question I ask myself often, especially as I NOW have 4 senior pets.

Being a Veterinarian, I also tend to be more focused on disease, and while in practice that's what I often saw...sick dogs and cats.

I spent a TONNE of time learning what to do for the sick and injured animals, but very LITTLE time learning about WHAT to do to prevent disease.

Yes I was taught about the 'importance' of vaccines.

And more than a few times I was given the spiel about telling clients to ONLY feed dry kibble ( to both cats and dogs)

I prescribed thousands of medications- and I didn't always tell clients about all of the potential side effects.

----------------------------------
But I am NOW on the other side
----------------------------------

First my last dog Hoochie died very young of spleen cancer.

Then I began to write about holistic veterinary care.

My former veterinary college took exception to my writings.

And now I am no longer practicing.

--------------------------------------------
Disease PREVENTION is even MORE important
--------------------------------------------

As a NON practicing veterinarian, I am spending MORE time with my own pets- they have become a bigger part of my life.

It is NOW even more important to me to do WHATEVER I can to keep them healthy.

-----------------------------------
Top DISEASE PREVENTION tips
-----------------------------------

1. Genetics- unfortunately we can't do much  about this, BUT we can encourage breeders to make HEALTH an important part of breeding, NOT just certain 'breed features'

2. Mental Health. It's undervalued for people, and also for our pets. An animal who feels VALUED and WANTED is in a far better position to fight disease and have a optimized immune system.

3. Essential Fatty Acids. I can't say ENOUGH about them. Thousands of clinical studies backing their effectiveness for disease prevention and treatment, from Cancer, to Heart disease, to Allergies.

4. A Healthy Intestinal Tract.

The gastro-intestinal tract houses about 70% of the immune system.

Healthy gut flora populations protect against invading microbes by simply taking up space and generally being more proficient at obtaining nutrients than the intruders.

Intestinal flora communicates with certain features of the immune system to help them focus on invading microbes.

Intestinal flora can even influence the growth and formation of organs crucial to proper immune function.

5. Immune supportive products. Two of the ones I most value include Colostrum and Maiitake mushroom. Colostrum is powerful, nutrient-rich mothers first milk. It contains over 37 potent immune factors.

Maiitake contains grifolan, an important beta-glucan polysaccharide; grifolan shown to activate macrophages and D-fraction (polysaccharide in maitake mushroom) also shown to energize the cellular immune system

Laboratory studies have shown that maitake can block growth of cancer tumors and boost the immune function.

P.S. You don't need to purchase my supplement to give these specific ingredients to your dogs or cats.

IF I were to give ONLY one thing, it would probably be essential fatty acids- either flax oil or fish oil.

But then seeing 70% of the immune system in the intestinal tract, I would also encourage you to supplement with probiotics.

Then seeing so many immune related diseases, I also advise using Colostrum..
