Hello Friend,

Good Morning to you this Tuesday.

--------------------------------------------------------------
Who are these governing bodies protecting?
--------------------------------------------------------------

Concerned about antibiotic resistance?

Overuse of drugs in animal feed?

If not you should be.

Over 70% of ALL antibiotics in North America are used in 'animal production'- they are given to 'healthy' cows in MASSIVE feedlots in their food.

These are NON therapeutic, meaning the animals are NOT sick, and the antibiotic is ONLY used to get the cow to grow faster.

Many respected scientists are concerned about how this leads to antibiotic resistance, and have banded together to launch a lawsuit:

The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), Food Animal Concerns Trust (FACT), Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) and Public Citizen filed a lawsuit in federal court in New York, against the FDA;'' its Commissioner, Margaret Hamburg, and its director for the Center of Veterinary Medicine, Bernadette Dunham; the Department of Health and Human Services, FDA's parent agency; and HHS Secretary Kathleen Sibelius. The suit alleges that the FDA has acted unlawfully, ignoring its own statutory authority, by failing to curb growth-promoting antibiotic dosing despite decades of evidence that it stimulates the emergence of antibiotic resistance, undermining medical treatment and harming human health.

The suit alleges the FDA concluded in 1977 that subtherapeutic use of both penicillin (approved in 1951) and tetracyclines (approved in 1954) was unsafe, but has never acted.

The American Medical Association, the American Public Health Association and other health and environmental advocates cite dozens of studies as evidence that feeding medically important antibiotics to poultry, pigs and cattle is generating drug-resistant pathogens that pose a significant threat to human health.

Industry responds:
------------------------------

Livestock groups, the pharmaceutical industry and the AVMA counter that there is little evidence that the risk associated with antibiotic use is large enough to be a concern.

P.S. Who really are these governing bodies protecting?

Supposedly they are there to protect you the consumer..

BUT they seem more interested in protecting BIG agribusiness...and the companies that sell these antibiotics in the first place.

Which reinforces my beliefs in once again questioning ALL that you hear, and making a decision for yourself.

P.P.S.  This may be of help for you  IF you are to ever have a sick or injured pet, and want to use some alternate options.
