Hi Friend,

Wouldn't it be a great world if we could get our priorities straight?

As opposed to bailing out banks, and seeing ever escalating CEO salaries, could we not be helping those that really need help?

Such as our companion animals.

Dogs, Cats- those who CAN'T speak.

No VOICE means No Say

They don't vote, and clearly the welfare of our animals is not an issue many so called 'leaders' care about.

On Friday I sent a newsletter about the AARCS ( Alberta Animal Rescue Society)

I have something big planned to help them.

But I'll tell you about that later...

Here is what Deanna Thompson, executive director of AARCS has to say:

“People call us, and say ‘we saw a dog go running by with a broken leg’ and we go out and search for them.

This is the shelter for the most desperate cases, animals reported hurt or lost in the rural area around Calgary, where failure means a dog or cat starving, freezing or dying from injuries.

From gunshot wounds to broken limbs, AARCS tries to save them all — but their success means the Calgary-based shelter now needs some saving itself.

Dog in a Leg Trap rescued by AARCS

The busiest two weeks in AARCS seven-year history hadn’t left the shelter bursting at the seams with rescued animals, and an empty bank account to match.

Since January 1st, AARCS has tracked down and taken in more than 70 dogs and cats, eight of them nursing wounds that required trips to emergency veterinary clinics in Calgary.

The list of injuries is grim, including extensive lacerations, bullet wounds, porcupine quills, a leg amputation, and an extreme case of mastitis.

And then there’s been six cases of parvovirus, requiring expensive medication.

“The one requiring the leg amputation, we think was hit by a car, but it’s so hard to say,” said Thompson.

“It was probably a broken leg that was left that way for weeks, and he was dragging it so the skin was all worn off — so there’s some pretty nasty injuries these guys have gone through.”

New arrivals have pushed that system to the limit, with 250 animals leaving no more room for dogs and very little space for cats.

That squeeze for space, along with veterinary bills totalling $15,000 over the past fortnight, has the non-profit shelter putting out a rare plea for public help.

Heal Your Pet At Home!

Best Wishes,

Dr Andrew Jones, DVM

P.S. There are thousands of shelters in North America, and millions of dogs and cats that need help.

It can seem OVERWHELMING.

But you need to start somewhere.

Make a stand

Make a difference.

If everyone just throws up their hands, and wastes their lives away on reality TV and Facebook, then NOTHING will change.

We as pet ADVOCATES need to be the Change.

You want to be a better person?

Be the person your pets THINK you are.

I know that I can do MUCH more for our animals.

I intend to do so, starting tomorrow.

Check out tomorrow's newsletter to see what I'm talking about.
