Hi Friend,

Good morning and welcome to Wednesday.

My cat has a few problems.

Kidney failure
Senility
Inappropriate urination
Arthritis
Recurrent vomiting

There are a few particular neutraceuticals that can help. BUT they need to be LOW in phosphorus because of the kidney problems, contain Glucosamine, and chondroitin in adequate levels, and have Probiotics.

My supplement does that.

Unhappy wife...Unhappy life
-------------------------------------------------

My cat is causing ANXIETY in my house.

He YOWLS excessively in the MIDDLE of the night.

This causes an unhappy wife…and you know the saying: unhappy wife makes for an unhappy life…it’s true.

So being a veterinarian it makes sense to see if I can deal with this problem holistically.

Here are the steps I will be taking:

1.Rule out Hyperthyroid..this medical condition can directly cause excessive vocalization

2.Ramps, lower resting posts. Older cats can’t always get to where they want to be- perhaps from arthritis. Let them get access to spots where they want to be by giving them lower posts to sit on, or consider ramps. I just installed a ramp so it is easier for my old cat Cleo to get his food.

3.Interaction with other pets. Sometime negative interactions lead to yowling. I have separated my 2 cats Cleo and Gussie at night time as they DON`T get along

4.Feliway ( pheromones). This is what gets released when your cat is `happy`. It may work for you, but it hasn’t for me.

5.L-theanine. This is an found naturally in green tea whose calming properties are well documented. L-Theanine increases GABA (inhibitory neurotransmitter) levels. GABA regulates neuronal excitation in the central nervous system (CNS). Cat dose is 50mg daily.

6.SAMe (S-adenosylmethionine) SAMe (S-adenosylmethionine) is the bioactive form of methionine, an essential amino acid or “building block” of protein. These amino acids are plentiful in foods, but especially concentrated in meat and sunflower seeds. Supplementing a diet with methionine alone, however, does not necessarily raise the level of bioactive methionine, or SAMe, dramatically. The SAMe dose is 100mg per day.

7.I will consider a conventional anti-anxiety drug IF the above remedies fail.
