Is 'Golden Paste' the golden ticket?

Hello Friend,

A cheery Monday to you!

Today's article is about a veterinary functional food combination that alternative veterinarians, such as Dr Susan Wynn, are using to help their clients pets to treat, and prevent osteoarthritis and cancer.

Is there one*magic bullet*

No

But the conventional options of surgery, and chemotherapy are clearly not working for thousands of pets.

My most current video is on '

                      What is Golden Paste?

Is golden paste the golden ticket?

This concoction has been used as an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant and to treat and prevent a variety of things, most commonly osteoarthritis and cancer in people. Dr. Wynn says, “Golden paste is often recommended for dogs with osteoarthritis, cancer, and chronic inflammatory conditions.” Curcumin is thought to be the primary active compound in turmeric and has been widely studied, although there are dozens of other unique bioactive active compounds within the turmeric rhizome.

Here is the usual recipe. Combine and then gently heat:

½ cup powdered turmeric
1 cup water
⅓ cup coconut or cold pressed olive oil
1 ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Dogs tend to find this paste very palatable, and the recommended dose in dogs is variable. It ranges from ¼ teaspoon to 1 tablespoon by mouth daily, divided if desired, and is dependent on the size of the dog and the condition being treated.

Directions

Mix the turmeric with the water in a pan, starting with 1 cup water and adding more only if needed. Stir the liquid on medium/low heat and in about 7 to 10 minutes, it should form a thick paste. If your paste looks watery, just add a bit more turmeric and heat it for another couple of minutes.

Once you’ve got a paste, add the pepper and oil, then stir it very well.

Allow the mixture to cool, then place it in a jar with a lid and store it in your fridge. Ideally, you should store the paste for no more than two weeks … after that, you’ll want to make a fresh batch.

Cautions

Contraindications for using turmeric and golden paste include patients undergoing surgery; patients with gallbladder disease, surgical patients, diabetes mellitus, gastroesophageal reflux disease, hormone-sensitive tumors and iron absorption problems. It is also contraindicated in males patients who need to maintain normal testosterone production and sperm motility.

Veterinary Secrets Pet of the Week!
Greetings Andrew,

Here is a picture of of my dog. His name is Oreo and is 9 years old.

He is called Oreo because he looks like an Oreo Cookie.

We joke around with him a lot by calling him "Special Agent Oreo *Dinozzo* Cookie" because his mate has been named Abby Sciuto, the forensic lab investigator from NCIS.

Oh and she does do her own investigation into a lot of stuff including tasting dog feces of which I had put a stop to. She still continues to investigate everywhere we go but not the feces.

She is part Rat Terrier and part Dalmatian, Oreo is part Rat Terrier and part Border Collie.
