Hello Friend,

Happy Memorial Day to those of you in the U.S.

Here in Canada it's one of those usual back to work days :-(

Holiday Safety Tips
----------------------------------------------

Now is a great time to review some common sense pet saftey tips. Many of us are bringing our pets with us, so keep some of these in mind:

1. ID- make sure that your dogs and cats are PROPERLY identified if they EVER go missing. I recently had this with Jessie ( newish dog), who left through the woods yesterday in hot pursuit of something. Today he's getting a NEW ID tag!

2. The vehicle- DON'T leave your pet alone, especially in the heat. Heat stroke is very serious and can happen fast.

3. Common toxins- this time of year think about plants, batteries, antifreeze, and ALL of that medication lying around ( keep it all away from your pets)

4. Flea/tick treatment. Use alternatives when possible. One of the MORE common reasons to call poison control is with pets having SERIOUS side effects to these topical flea products.

5. Water- BE careful. Currently in my area the rivers are running FAST and VERY HIGH. Keep your dog out of them, and in general exercise caution..

6. Be PREPARED for an emergency. I suggest a basic first aid kit, and that you
aquire some BASIC First Aid Skills.

P.S. Here are a couple of options for you. I have a complete Book on Dog and Cat First Aid, PLUS several videos. My NEWEST video is on TOP pet poisonings, including EXACTLY what you can do at home IF these happen to your pets.
