Hello Friend,
A cheery Monday morning to you and all of your family.
I hope your December is going well, and your getting ready for Christmas.
I went for a short trip to visit my mom who is in an extended care home.
She isn't really responsive any more, and didn't seem to know my name. No fun.
It was good to see her though, then my brother and his 'excited for Christmas' children. I left some presents, and I am giving them one present in particular for their older Border Collie:

Great for aging pets, super helpful for the aches and pains of arthritis, and can be beneficial for helping prevent the flu as it contains colostrum.

Be WARY of the Expert....
On the drive home I heard an 'radio expert physician' tell the public that you NEED to get a Flu Shot... according to her thousands of Americans die every year due to the Flu, so if you don't want to die, get the shot.
Yikes.
A few problems with this advice.
1. No mention as to the main problem this year. The current flu vaccine will likely not even protect you. It's the WRONG strain.
Here is part of a recent news article:
NEW YORK (AP) — The flu vaccine may not be very effective this winter, according to U.S. health officials who worry this may lead to more serious illnesses and deaths.
Flu season has begun to ramp up, and officials say the vaccine does not protect well against the dominant strain seen most commonly so far this year. That strain tends to cause more deaths and hospitalizations, especially in the elderly.
"Though we cannot predict what will happen the rest of this flu season, it's possible we may have a season that's more severe than most," said Dr. Tom Frieden, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, at a news conference Thursday.
CDC officials think the vaccine should provide some protection and still are urging people to get vaccinated. But it probably won't be as good as if the vaccine strain was a match.
Flu vaccine effectiveness tends to vary from year to year. Last winter, flu vaccine was 50 to 55 percent effective overall, which experts consider relatively good.
2. No discussion around the side effects of the vaccine, especially in those who have been vaccinated yearly.
This is what Dr Mercola has to say:
Vaccines Wreak Havoc on Your Immune System
All vaccines are immune suppressive—that is, they suppress your immune system, which may not return to normal for weeks to months. Here are just some of the ways vaccines impair and alter your immune response:
Some components in vaccines are neurotoxic and may depress your immune and brain function, particularly heavy metals such as mercury preservatives and aluminum adjuvants
The lab altered vaccine viruses themselves may further impair your immune response Foreign DNA/RNA from animal tissues can wreak havoc in your body and trigger autoimmunity in some people Vaccines may alter your t-cell function and lead you to become chronically ill Vaccines can trigger allergies by introducing large foreign protein molecules into your body that have not been properly broken down by your digestive tract (since they are injected). Your body can respond to these foreign particles in the form of an allergic reaction
The flu vaccine may also pose an immediate risk to your cardiovascular system. One 2007 study published in the Annals of Medicine5 concluded that:
"Abnormalities in arterial function and LDL oxidation may persist for at least 2 weeks after a slight inflammatory reaction induced by influenza vaccination.
These could explain in part the earlier reported increase in cardiovascular risk during the first weeks after an acute inflammatory disorder."

Veterinary Secrets Pet of the Week!
|
|
Born one of 8 standard poodles, Ginger was born with both front legs permanently bent at 90 degrees at the elbow, and was abandoned by her mother, who would not feed her (probably because of her leg defect).
She was going to be euthanized. My daughter and I offered to adopt and care for her. At one month when we took her home she weighed just 10 ounces, and had been bottle fed from birth. The vet suggested that she might have a liver shunt, as she was not thriving. (When we got her, her siblings were about 10 lbs.) We started her on Flint River for puppies right away.
She has now grown into a lovely dog, at 5 months weighed in at about 20 pounds. We are hoping that if there was a liver shunt, that it has closed, and it looks good, as she is thriving!
Ginger now weighs about 33 pounds. She was not a good candidate for elbow replacement surgery as hoped, so we decided to have a cart built specifically for her.She is getting quite proficient in it.
You will notice that the beautiful red color she had as a puppy has faded to a very pretty light brown.

P.S. I am not getting the flu vaccine, nor anyone in my family..( see above for why)
P.P.S. Respiratory disease is common in our pets, and a potenially more effective way to boost your pet's immune system is with colostrum.
It's in my supplement.
