Hello Friend,

Hello and Good morning this Tuesday.

Last night was Election night here in Canada..

The Conservative party ( sort of like the Republicans) won a majority of seats, while the New Democratic party ( even farther left than the Democrats), became the official opposition.

Here in Canada we are definitely split..

Were animals, or pets, even on the agenda?

Nope

But do most people have pets?

Yes

Are our pets IMPORTANT parts of our lives?

Yes

What is the 'legal' definition of a pet?

Property...like a T.V.

Does that seem right to you?

No, and NOT to me either.

Then let's use the example of the town I live in, Nelson

What is splattered ALL over the downtown core?

Pictures of dogs drawn on the sidewalk, circled with a BIG LINE across.

Equating to: NO DOGS ALLOWED

That's right...I can't even WALK my own dogs on a leash from my house, to the 'Dog Walk' as I cross the NO DOGS ALLOWED zone.

My point here: There is some changing of attitudes needed for those in Government- and it's up to pet owners like us to make it happen.

Changes to the legal definition of companion animals.

Recognition that our companion animals are IMPORTANT parts of our families.

And some RESPECT from OLD SCHOOL politicians,  (such as those whom inhabit my City Council) recognizing pet owners as a BIG part of the community.

And GETTING rid of the ridiculous NO DOGS ALLOWED Bylaw ( a little pet peeve of mine :-) )

P.S. Part of my ongoing message is to have YOU question the so called 'Powers that Be'...

And make decisions for yourself.

Look to me as your guide.
