Do you know why it's Remembrance Day/Veterans Day?

Today is Remembrance Day here in Canada, and Veterans Day in the United States.

Yes we are honoring our military veterans who are, or have, been at war.

Do you know why it’s today?

It commemorates the armistice signed between the Allies of World War I and Germany at Compiègne France, for the cessation of hostilities on the Western Front of World War I,  which took effect at eleven o'clock in the morning—the "eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month" of 1918.

Here is the New York Times Headline at the time:

Armistice Day Headline

Whether or not you are in support- or not of war, it is not what this is about.

It’s honoring and remembering.

We can all learn.

I have always observed this, and I suggest you do so as well.

A two-minute moment of silence  at 11:00 a.m. local time. This was originally started as a sign of respect for the roughly 20 million people who died in the World War 1.

Best Wishes,

Dr Andrew J
