REPORT Measuring Our Communities:
The State of Military and Veteran Families in the United States
The Military Family Research Institute (MFRI) at Purdue University and the Purdue Center for Regional Development has unveiled a ground-breaking report, “Measuring Our Communities: The State of Veteran and Military Families in the United States.”

The Report includes rich and specific data on the state of military-connected individuals across the country, focusing on topics such as employment, education, mental health and legal needs. It also includes an exceptional online data tool created by MFRI and the Purdue Center for Regional Development (PCRD) called Measuring Communities. The tool allows service providers and professionals nationwide to make data-driven decisions when it comes to serving the unique needs of service members, veterans and their families by providing localized data.

The Measuring Communities tool, already used by more than 60 organizations, enables real-time data analysis across a range of issues offering rich and nuanced data points about military-connected individuals in the communities in which they live. Those who wish to utilize the tool can register for access by visiting, Individuals and organizations can also become members of Measuring Communities and have access to enhanced reports with embedded links in the report to additional data. You can take a quick look at the Texas Snapshot here

The Measuring Communities report represents a starting place from which communities and organizations can track change, monitor evolving needs and opportunities, and focus their time, effort and resources.

Wise Area Relief Mission, Inc.
Utility Assistance
WARM began in 1998 when the food pantry at Central Church of Christ merged into an outreach for area churches in the Wise County, Texas, area. Combining efforts with local civic organizations, large corporations, small businesses, churches and individuals WARM is a joint civic ecumenical project and is thereby non-denominational. WARM is the largest food pantry in Wise County, Texas, providing food assistance and other services to all Wise County residents in need, without discrimination.

In emergency or extreme situations, WARM can also provide funds directly to an electric, water, natural gas, or propane company in the client's name. This occurs, by appointment, at the beginning of each month; however, you must call toward the end of the month prior to schedule this appointment (for example, call 940-626-4676 by July 31 for an August appointment).

WARM serves only residents of Wise County. It does not have a specific program for veterans, but low-income Wise County residents who are veterans are welcome to apply for assistance.

The first time a client comes to WARM’s office, they will fill out an application and show proof of Wise County residence. WARM must update the application at least annually for food. If the client requests assistance with services other than food, the application must be current within the past six months.
