It is a delight to announce that our new Ministerial Assistant will be Esther Brazil. Esther was born in the United States, grew up in Beijing, Singapore, and Sydney, and will claim to be from southern Illinois if anybody asks. She studied philosophy and theology at The Queen's College, Oxford, and performance at the Royal Academy of Music. After six years of singing and touring with groups such as the Monteverdi Choir, the Sixteen, the Marian Consort, and the Dunedin Consort, Esther is now exploring her vocation to the priesthood, and will work with us at St Mary’s for the next twelve months as she begins a process of discernment. Esther replaces Claire Browes who will start preparing for priestly ministry at Ripon College Cuddesdon in September.

Esther looks forward very much to getting to know everyone in the congregation, and will start work on the 18th of September.

Almighty God,
you have entrusted to your Church
a share in the ministry of your Son our great high priest:
inspire by your Holy Spirit the hearts of many
to offer themselves for the ministry of your Church,
that strengthened by his power,
they may work for the increase of your kingdom
and set forward the eternal praise of your name;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Revd Dr William Lamb
Vicar

Archive Corner
While Penny is on holiday, we are going to have a section dedicated to our historical archive.

The picture above shows a service being held in 1940 in the 'crypt'. The crypt was of course the Congregation House, the current location of the Vaults & Garden Cafe. The floor was a lot lower then and it was raised to its current levels during the last renovation project.

You can read more about the history of the church by purchasing our guide in the shop or by speaking to one of our volunteers.

If you would like to take part, cycling or walking to as many churches as you wish, sponsor forms and more information can be obtained from Margaret Chaundy - margaret.chaundy2@btinternet.com
