Presented in cooperation with the Community Oncology Program at CancerCare Manitoba, and the University of Manitoba, Blood Disorders Day 2021 is a full-day symposium of value to all health professionals. Sampling the blood and interpreting the results of blood tests are core components of daily patient care. This two-day intensive workshop will arm you with new knowledge and skills around opioid addiction and the resources available to support this vulnerable patient population. This workshop is a prerequisite training requirement in order to prescribe or dispense methadone and buprenorphine/naloxone in Manitoba.

This essential course requires a mandatory online exam before the on-site portion of the course. Online exam and course textbook fees are not included in course fees.

14.5 Hours MOC Section 3 SIM
This two-day course starts with a review of the primary and secondary surveys and initial resuscitation including ample time to practice applying concepts learned. Delivery of the course consists of team-based high-fidelity simulation sessions, which are interspersed with short, small group, interactive case-based or didactic sessions and technical skills sessions for practicing procedures. Topics include head injury, airway management, upper body injuries, abdominal trauma, imaging interpretation and much more.

Presenter: Cory F. Newman, PhD Objectives: • Participants will learn to balance ethical principles in deciding about hospitalization. • Participants will learn to apply specific cognitive-behavioral techniques and homework assignments in the treatment of suicidal patients, in the context of a collaborative therapeutic relationship and an astute cognitive-behavioral case conceptualization. • Participants will learn self-help skills to cope with the stress of treating suicidal patients, and to maintain professional confidence and optimism in the aftermath of losing a patient to suicide.
