Attending the Fridays at the University: Approaches to Communication is a fantastic way for medical professionals to boost their skills and improve patient care. One of the highlights is diving into motivational interviewing, especially when discussing sensitive topics like obesity. This approach helps create a comfortable environment where patients can openly share their challenges, making it easier for providers to connect and support them. Plus, the focus on creating safe spaces and being culturally sensitive means that everyone can feel respected and understood, which is crucial for effective healthcare.

Attendees of this skills workshop will have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of joint injections by exploring key indications, contraindications, and potential complications. Through comprehensive discussions and patient case studies, participants will learn how to effectively communicate this information to their patients, ensuring they are well-informed and comfortable with the procedure.

The workshop will also emphasize evidence-based practices, guiding participants in evaluating the best medications for intra-articular injections. With hands-on examination techniques for assessing the knee and shoulder joints, attendees will gain practical skills to identify safe injection sites. Furthermore, they will have the chance to practice intra-articular injections on simulation models, enhancing their confidence and proficiency in this essential procedure.

The Acute Care of at-Risk Newborns Program (ACoRN) is a Canadian initiative aimed at educating on neonatal stabilization, fostering a multidisciplinary team approach, and providing care for newborns who are unwell or at risk of becoming unwell shortly after birth. It also prepares for the transfer to a referral facility when needed.

ACoRN employs a sequential, case-based methodology to impart knowledge and skills. Its design ensures its utility irrespective of the complexity of a condition or the frequency with which a practitioner encounters specific conditions.

Next Session: November 19, 2024
