This Sunday @ UCC: Changing Other People - Leddy Hammock
|
|
What Needs Changin’ in the World? by Freebo and Richard Mekdeci
What needs changin’ in the world? – A whole lot of things, if it’s up to me.
What needs changin’ in the world? Maybe it could be the way I’d like it to be.
No more fightin’ in the neighborhood; hearts united for the sake o’ good.
No more hunger and no more greed; ev’rybody’s rich, happy and free . . . .
The more I look around, the more I see, I can’t do it all, but I can change me . . . .
I could be the change I’d like to see.” |

| | Woo Hoo! Concert Tonight with Sloan & Glen
|
| | Tue, Apr 26 7:00 PM Peace Chapel
Defying
standard categorization, singer/songwriter Sloan Wainwright,
consistently demonstrates her easy command of a variety of American
musical styles — pop, folk, jazz and blues — held together by the
melodious tone of her rich contralto, with the end result being a unique
and soulful hybrid.
Her family tree (brother and folk-music
luminary Loudon Wainwright, nephew Rufus Wainwright, nieces Martha
Wainwright and Lucy Wainwright Roche) reads like a who’s who of
contemporary folk music. Sloan’s incredible gift is not only her unique
songwriting ability but also her dramatically voiced rendition of
original songs.
“She’s folk influenced, but the real star here is
her voice. Warm and smoky and smooth, it makes her earthy, ominous
lyrics seem all the more intense.”
With a solid and impressive
discography of 7 original CD releases to her credit, Sloan continues to
write, sing and perform live.In addition, Sloan has written numerous
musical compositions for theater and dance and teaches at many of the
best-known master songwriter series and workshops. Sloan’s open spirit
and first-hand experience is welcome –year after year– in the musical
classrooms of such prestigious song camps as Richard Thompson’s Frets
and Refrains, The Swannanoa Gathering, Summersongs, Wintersongs, and
WUMB Radio’s Summer Acoustic Music Week (SAMW), Winter Acoustic Music
Weekend (WAMW) Moab Folk Camp and Cape Cod Songwriters Retreat.
Now that's all good to know, but the truth is, you won't really understand till you her her!!

|
| Glen Roethel is an amazing musician, inspiring songwriter, and entertainer extraordinaire!
He tours singing his own songs with guitar and ukulele, often improvising new songs on-the-fly [See Custom Songwriting For Your Events].
When not performing his own music he entertains, drawing from his lifetime musical curriculum – more than one thousand hit cover songs spanning the 1930s through today (with a special emphasis on the ’50s through the ’80s).
Glen has released five original full-length CDs, most of which he produced for his own independent label, Inspireline, and his voice, songs, guitar and ukulele appear on numerous compilations and recordings by other notable artists.

| | | | | | The Gulf Oil Spill happened in April of 2010.
Slightly more than a year after, we found it necessary, as did the UU Church across the street, to return to one Sunday service after having had two services each Sunday for more than 30 years.
A few years ago, our Board of Directors at that time advised that a claim regarding BP Oil be filed with an attorney.
We do not know if there will be any results of that claim or not. But at this time, we are asking that if anyone here has been a supporter of this ministry for more than five years, and feels that his/her attendance, contributions, were impacted because his or her own finances were impacted, directly or indirectly, by the Gulf Oil Spill, s/he should definitely share the personal account with me or Russ in person, on the phone, or by mail or email asap.

| | God's grace shows up in our Reverend Grace, for sure!
|
| Our assistant minister, The Reverend Grace DeBella, has been completing her ministerial training online through the Unity Urban Ministry School and has just been invited to interview next month at Unity Worldwide Ministries, to complete her studies through UWM.
She just received her grade report for the first 440 (!) credit hours, and we want you to know that she earned an A in every single course she's taken!!!
Way to go, Grace! |
| | | “On . . . another occasion, [my teenaged son] demonstrated to me the success power of love. One morning he left for school in an unhappy mood. All day I remembered it and felt badly that he had begun the day in such a state of mind. I felt that there was something I should have done or said to turn the tide of his thinking in the morning. All day as I remembered this incident I kept affirming, ‘DIVINE LOVE IS DOING ITS PERFECT WORK IN THIS SITUATION NOW.’
That afternoon when he arrived home from school, he came into the house, put aside his books, and greeted me with the words, ‘Hi, Beautiful!’ I cannot remember when he had greeted me in such a manner before, but truly, love had done its perfect work that day!”
