Recall: Many Trek Bikes with Front Disc Brakes
Though many of you have probably heard about this recall due to the sweeping media coverage, we here at Towpath just wanted to make sure our customers understand the situation and the solution.
This recall only applies to Trek bikes equipped with disc brakes and quick release skewers that open beyond 180 degrees. You are receiving this email because according to our records, you may have a bicycle affected by this recall.

There is no problem with the recalled skewers when they’re properly installed. The safety issue only arises when the skewer is incorrectly used and left in the 'open' position (see figure 1). In addition to the injury potential that already comes with an improperly installed front wheel, the affected skewers have levers that can swing more than 180 degrees and potentially jam in the disc brake rotor (see figure 2), thus possibly ejecting the wheel and/or the rider.

The solution to this issue is simple--bring your affected bike into Towpath, let us inspect it, and we will change out your skewer for one that does not open beyond 180 degrees. We will also give you a coupon good for $20 towards any Bontrager product (coupon must be used in its entirety in a single purchase).

If you'd like to learn more about proper installation of wheels with quick-release skewers, check out this video from Trek or ask any of our staff for a demonstration when you come in to switch out your skewer.
