Subject: You can only do what you can do!!!

That title was not just to pull you into this story, and I promise I won't keep you long. Stay with me for just a few minutes…

A few weeks ago, I just spent the week away from home training therapists on the importance of self-care and boundary setting in business. That old saying is true; “anything you teach you will definitely have to use for yourself”. One of the principles I teach clinicians and clients to do is to learn ways to focus on the present moment by using mindfulness. This equates to ceasing and feeling the current moment as opposed to being totally consumed by the next moment and future moments that have not yet arrived. Often times, we find ourselves trying to change and control the future, which cheats us from embracing the current.
So there I was, out facilitating these trainings and I found myself dealing with issues at home, problems and concerns with training sites, and participants not being happy about various things. To add to all of this chaos, my mind began to be consumed with everything I failed to finish and things were heading towards me being completely overwhelmed. I forced myself to pause and take a deep breath and I asked myself one question: “What is the next single thing I need to give my attention to?” This practice helps center you and gives you the ability to stay connected with what you can do opposed what you need to do. It’s settling and provides a level of much-needed peace in the midst of discord.
In a moment of clarity, brought on by my immediate action I found that I had everything I needed at that moment to take care of what I needed to at that moment. Whether you are a business owner, a busy mom, a working father, or someone who needs to have all the details in order just remember to breathe and take things moment by moment.

Until next time,

Latasha
