Can you do more?

Let's strive for guiltless caregiving

Could I do more?  Is it my fault that mom is sick?

Should I  have called or visited more?

These are some of the questions that could surface for caregivers caring for loved ones. In fact, one of the biggest emotions caregivers face is guilt.  One way to cope with guilt is by learning how to be compassionate to yourself. You can do this by giving yourself permission to have feelings and recognize that your feelings don't control your actions. Another way to strive towards guiltless caregiving is to name the emotion and recognize the source of your guilt. This exercise will allow you to honor what you can do and accept what you cannot do for your loved ones.
