We are excited about a ministry opportunity the Lord is opening for Daniel. The Baptist Church we attended in Slavonski Brod, Croatia, where Daniel was baptized, is building a halfway house for children leaving the foster care system. (See pictures above).
They have finished phase one of the facility and now need help completing the interior. That is right up Daniel’s alley as he is currently working as an HVAC, plumbing, and electric apprentice. From February 21 to March 2, he will travel with a team from Nashville, TN, to work on the building in Slavonski Brod, Croatia. The team leader for the trip takes summer teams to Slavonski Brod, so we got to know him when we lived there. The following quote is from him:
“Darko and Gorana (pictured above) were refugees during the Homeland War back in the early 90s in what was known as Yugoslavia. Those events shaped their lives and how they approach their ministry and community. They have a heart to serve those who come from broken homes and families. This led them to cast a vision to build a facility next to the church building in Slavonski Brod, Croatia, that would be a community resource center for single parent families and children in the foster care system.
A lot of work has taken place over the last 3-4 years but based on forecasted budgets, it will be at least another 3 years until it will be complete: 6+ years to build a single structure. We want to shrink that timeline down and many of you can help.
We want to take a team of about 25 workers over to Slavonski Brod and crank out 2 interior projects to get this facility up and running. We need to lay the flooring throughout the structure (laminate and tile flooring) as well as do some electrical work (lighting fixtures, outlets and switches).
We don’t need everyone to be a professional general contractor. We already have a couple of those on our team which will help to guide the workers on installation processes and such.”
