Thank you for praying for my trip to Thailand. I’m sitting in the airport in Dallas, waiting to board my final flight, back to Kansas City.
The biennial (every two years) Bible translation conference was extremely fruitful. The conference lasted four days, with daily worship (in multiple languages), devotions, and plenary sessions, followed by full days of workshops. We participants also had a lot of time to talk and network during coffee breaks and meals.
The theme of the conference was “ethics in Bible translation,” and much of the discussion centered around the ethics of using Artificial Intelligence in Bible translation. The discussions were very stimulating and challenging.
I had numerous practical discussions and received some training on specific software programs that leverage AI in a responsible way, which will be helpful in Bible translation. I’m grateful for the pioneers in these fields and that I was able to talk to them face-to-face and get my specific use-case questions answered. Most of us who do Bible translation work in somewhat isolated situations or virtually so, it was a wonderful refreshment to meet in person with others from all over the world who also do Bible translation.
