History of Texan Cuisine

Developed societies have existed throughout the region of Texas long before it became an independent state in 1845. The population was heavily Mexican, and to this day, heavily influences Texan cuisine.

Squash, corn, beans, chillies, tomatoes, pecans and chocolate are typical within the Texan region and also allude to its Mexican history. Smoked barbequed meats as well as stewed meat dishes, especially chilli con carne [which literally translates to chilli with meat] stand out as the most common dishes of Texas.
