A Story of Thankfulness

By: Neill Rogers, Executive Director TRM

I am thankful for being laid off.

Two months ago, my 45-year season in technology ended:

This season started with “my red stapler”

  • Punch cards conversion @ 14 years old

  • The original IBM PC in 1981

  • Portable, lug-gable, laptops & smartphones 90s +

  • Finally, ending with cloud computing

My technology career reads like crosses between Thurber's Secret Life of Walter Mitty Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea and Miller’s play, Death of a Salesman.

However, this transition to what's next

is still unfolding into an epic story of God’s

provision, mercy, & unending-limitless love for me.

He brings fulfillment to my lifelong pipe dream of pastoring men of all ages, stages, maturity & obscurity.  With a wife, 4 kids, and considerable debt, I deserve neither a season like this, nor thought it to be any more than a dream.

Isn’t that our God?

      – fulfilling our heart’s desire (Psa. 37:4)

      – immeasurably more than we ask or imagine (Eph. 3:20)

      – God wants to join us in our wildest dreams. (Jer. 29:11)

We adjust to join God in His work, which fulfills our wildest dreams for His “Glow-ree” as Dr. Shadrach Meshach Lockridge puts it in his “My King” sermon. – You wanna get excited about Jesus? Find that sermon on the interwebs!

Come alongside me in this journey God has for each one of us by giving thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for us in Christ Jesus. (1 Thes. 5:16-18)

In many countries, a special day is set aside each year for thanksgiving.

But for us that “Forge ahead”, every day can be a day of thanksgiving. When we come to Christ, it is not the end but the beginning of a whole new life!

He is with us, and He wants to help us follow Him and His Word.

If we delight in the Lord, He becomes our desire.

More of God less of me.
