Subject: What Singapore 🇸🇬 can teach you about music learning

Hello!

Mark here from The Happy Pianist!

This coming week is Singapore’s 61st National Day, so naturally, there are many news articles written about Singapore's success.

Yes in summary, Singapore has transformed from a trading port to a global city in last 60 years.

But when people look at Singapore today, it’s easy to see the modern city skyline and assume our growth journey was smooth.

But ask our parents or grandparents, and they’ll tell you the path to progress was never a straight line.

Singapore’s progress was built through unexpected setbacks, multiple crisis, and an unwavering drive to adapt and keep moving forward.

As musicians, doesn't this story sound deeply familiar?

When we watch a pianist perform effortlessly on stage, it’s easy to say

“oh they can do it because they are talented or gifted. They are born like this"

But behind every performer is a history of rough starts, exhausting practice weeks, and forgotten notes on stage, all of which we don’t see!

So whether building a nation or mastering an instrument, the journey of progress is similar.

But here’s the good news for you.

Mastering a music instrument well is way easier than building a nation.

So keep practicing, keep growing, and keep moving forward…just like Singapore.

Happy National Day! 🇸🇬🎹

I also created a short video showing how Singapore has grown over the years. You can watch on Instagram here.

You can also listen to the background music and see how many National Day songs you recognise.
