Hello all,

Apologies for the late notice, and for one more shift in the plan for tomorrow’s work. The decision has been made to do the work of the Finados in the following way: 

We will start with the Mass, as is traditional on this day. We will then sing the Hinário of Maria Damião, followed by 2-3 hymns from each of the other Companheiros (TBD - but ones that people are likely to be more familiar with). We will still be sitting, and still in blue fardas for those who are initiates.

We’ve decided to do it this way because, after conversations among the leadership and with some members of the ensaio group, it feels like we haven’t given ourselves enough time to get familiar with the hinário of João Pereira - many of us have never sung it, and as with all hinários, we want to do it justice. It is still our intention to honor the work that people have been putting in to learn it; we are looking ahead to Holy Thursday in 2026 and are planning to sing the hinário of João Pereira at that work. Let’s all continue our study so that we’ll be ready to do the hymns honor when the opportunity arises.

The doctrine of the Daime has a way of putting our defects in front of us, not as punishment but as opportunity for transformation; the flux in the lead-up to this work has stimulated a conversation about how we can better organize and plan ahead for works.
