Hinario Study Tips & Resources Hello CHLQ community,
Attached to this email you will find the schedule of works from now through July 2026, including the occasion, type of work, times, uniform, and what we are planning to sing. While some of this may be subject to change, hopefully this gives ample time to plan accordingly - especially for Daime initiates - and to study hymns.
Some of you have already been at it for awhile; thank you to Candace and the whole ensãio group, and to those of you that have been studying in other venues or on your own. Your efforts are making a big difference in the works!
We have received some questions about where to go to study, so here are some resources:
The first stop is https://hinos.santodaime.org/acervo/introducao, which is where you will find the official Ceu do Mapiá recordings. For the “big” hinários - Mestre, Padrinho Sebastião, Padrinho Alfredo, Padrinho Valdete, Madrinha Rita, the Companheiros, etc - these official recordings are what you want to use. You can also find compilations - such as the Cura - on this site, along with some studio recordings that are a joy to study (Sonia Palhares, portions of Alex Polari, Madrinha Rita, a few others). If you find it on santodaime.org, it’s very likely to be correct; this is your safest bet for learning the hymns correctly. SoundCloud is also a great source, especially for studio recordings. Your first stop here is HWE Media (House of White Eagle), which is where you will find the hinarios that are “local” to CHLQ - studio versions of José Rosa’s Star and Offered Hymns, The Rock, Tu Te Firme - as well as several lovely recordings from Flor da Montanha (Marcelo Bernardes, Clarice Motta, Lucas Kastrup), and gorgeous recordings of the hinarios of Vera Froes, Nova Jerusalém, Maria Damião, João Pereira, and others. You can search for the specific hinario you want, or search for “Santo Daime” and see what you find. A NOTE ABOUT SOUNDCLOUD: Due to the peer-to-peer nature of the platform, people can put essentially whatever they want on the site. You need to be discerning; not all the recordings available on SoundCloud are official, nor are they all correct. When in doubt, see #1 above or check with someone who knows. YouTube. Lots of hinários here; the account for Canal Jagube is a great place to find the most recently received hymns from Ceu do Mapiá and for a window into what goes on in that community. As with SoundCloud, be aware that not all of what’s available on YouTube is official or correct.
Please take a look at the schedule and pick something upcoming to study - it can be as simple as 5 hymns a day. Listen while you’re driving or cooking (whistle while you work), and also sit down with your book and dive into something that calls to you. If you have questions about how to make notations in your books, ask. Any time you’re studying, you are actively engaging with the Doctrine of the Daime, while receiving the teachings and also improving your ear for, and comprehension of, Brazilian Portuguese. Singing is how we pray and praise; understanding what you’re singing adds dimensions to your praise. During a time on Earth where that's needed as much as ever, making this study is a way to contribute to Light while also adding to the harmony and strength of our current.
