Recent years have been discouraging for homebrewers as COVID and crop yield problems disrupted supply of ingredients and increased prices. Luckily, those problems are behind us, but in their immediate aftermath came the widespread inflation that we have all come to know. But where there is a will, there is a way, and we know that homebrewers have the will to save money. This is our effort to help. | How? In a nutshell, we realized that the recipe kits had a whole lot of labor tied up in them. The labor inputs allowed them to be very convenient but were also causing price increases as labor costs have gone up. This week, we redesigned the way we fulfill them, while leaving the recipes themselves unchanged. Let's repeat that part – the recipes themselves remain unchanged. So how did we reduce the costs? We reduced the amount of packing in the kits. We removed the individually packaged items of whirlfloc, yeast nutrient, and brewing salts. Now, these general brewing supplied should be purchased separately in larger bulk, thereby saving a chunk of change. The end results were a 20-40% cost reduction of each recipe kit.
