Dear Fermenters’ Community- A word of thanks for all of your continued support over these last ten years that Gabe and I have owned The Beverage People. We are honored to be a part of your projects, and to know many of you personally. Of course many of you go way back to the original shop which is celebrating its 45th birthday! It’s rare these days for a local, small business to stick around for 45 years, and wouldn’t be possible without an active and engaged group of community members. We have all been through quite a lot together these past years. Gabe and I are lucky to have such an active, interesting, and diverse community of people who enjoy creating, experimenting, and perfecting their hobbies. I look forward to the next ten (dare I say 45?!) years with all of you- Cheers! And Happy New Year! | | A Message from Gabe Jackson, Co-Owner of The Beverage People | | | Happy New Year to you wine and cidermakers, brewers, meadmakers, cheesemakers, and fermenter folk of all types! In this new year, we are celebrating more than just one new year – it is a milestone anniversary year for us at The Beverage People. It was 10 years ago (on March 16) that Jane and I took ownership of this little company with deep community roots. We are also celebrating those roots this year because that’s another milestone – the company was founded in the winter of 1980-1981 making this a 45 year anniversary for the company. So we have a DOUBLE anniversary to celebrate this year – 45 years of company operations, and 10 years with Jane and myself as the “new” family of proprietors. People often ask if The Beverage People is our family’s company. While I have been working at the company for 1/3 of my life at this point and was born in the same winter of 1980-81 that the company was founded (joining the staff in 2007), Jane and I are not related to the original Burch family that founded the company. We worked for them and learned from them for many years, with Jane joining the staff in 2010. For these 10 years since we took the helm of the company, we have done our best to maintain the operation in the spirit and with the methods we were taught by our predecessors here. The focus has always been on more than just products, but also on the education of the customers and staff, including instructional guides, classes, events, competitions and club activities aimed at elevating the hobby experience. We have decided that the anniversary celebrations this year, thus, should be focused on those same community engagements events that have always been part of The Beverage People culture. We want to thank you all for your support these last 10 years and give back to you all with these free events. Please join us. We will be hosting 10 of them – one for each year we are celebrating! We decided to focus on two of the most popular types of events that we have hosted during these 10 years---the Fermentation Potlucks, and the Doctoring Day Events. We will host 5 of each type, with event dates running January through June as shown below. January 24 - Fermentation Potluck January 31 - Doctoring Day
February 21 - Fermentation Potluck February 28 - Doctoring Day April 18 - Fermentation Potluck May 16 - Fermentation Potluck June 20 - Fermentation Potluck | | We will also be creating and sharing slideshows to commemorate these anniversaries, and encouraging you all to share your own flashback hobby photos on our Slideshow of Customer Shared Photos on our website (coming soon). Also, stay tuned to receive a celebration gift by email on the actual day we received the keys to the kingdom --- March 16.
