Subject: TFA - Why are national gun rights grabbers attacking Tennessee? Weak Republicans might be the answer

Why is a national, well funded gun control group targeting Tennessee's legislature which is supposedly under the control of a "super majority" of Republicans?

Perhaps because the evidence of the last 8 years suggests that the Tennessee Legislature is not soundly pro 2nd Amendment.

Right now, Tennessee legislators are looking at bills that would further infringe your rights.  While many of you may have renewed or upgraded with the national organizations after the media and legislative responses to the Florida shooting, the same knee jerk response is occurring right here in Tennessee and must be fought.

Even today, we received an email from the well funded national group "Everytown for Gun Safety" which is objecting to the bills in Tennessee including a bill that exempts permit holders from charges for having permitted handguns in airport parking lots or unsecured portions of airport terminals!  See attached PDF.

TFA is already engaged with both the legislative and election cycles battles in 2018.

At present, five candidates are seeking the Republican primary slot for governor and there are two Democrats - former Nashville Mayor, Karl Dean and representative Craig Fitzhugh. None of them are strong for gun owners ... despite what some may claim in their election year propaganda.

In addition, we are projecting perhaps 25 to 30 of the 99 House seats may be vacated due to various reasons and up for grabs. House Speaker, Beth Harwell, has indicated that she will vacate her seat to run for governor. There could be 3-7 Senate seats opening.

Based on current events, Tennessee's gun owners and conservatives are loosing the following voices in the General Assembly: Senator Mae Beavers (who was replaced by Mark Pody), Rep. Shelia Butt, Rep. Judd Matheny, Rep. Courtney Rogers, Rep. Mark Pody (moved to Senate) and others.

TFA members have a chance to help change the composition of the Legislature and to select a governor in 2018. But, we have to get the word out, reinforce our lines and build the resources to fight in perhaps more than 30 races simultaneously. We need your help and ask that you renew or upgrade your membership today.

As recent news reports reflect, TFA members must realize that some candidates are investing millions of personal funds to "buy" the office much as Bill Haslam did in 2010. We are seeing this already with almost every candidate for governor.

We are also seeing enormous resources invested in Tennessee by those who see our legislature as weak on 2nd Amendment issues and thus as an opportunity to push a gun control agenda.

We must stand firm together and work as a group for the 2018 elections to be successful for gun owners in selecting the right candidates for governor, senate and house in 2018.

We need you to think hard about whether you can do more to advance the fight. That includes additional contributions throughout the year - even if its just the cost of one box of ammo a month. TFA has made it easy for members to make supplemental member contributions and even regular automatic contributions.

Joining and supporting TFA is an investment in the fight to restore our constitutional rights and to fight against politicians who are willing to sell their votes and your rights to whichever business interest gives them the most money!

Let your voice be heard and contact your legislators on this and other legislation.  You can identify your legislators on this website tool.
