New Tennessee Attorney General Opinions regarding "guns in parks" and special privileges for off-duty law enforcement officers.

The Tennessee Attorney General has released two opinions of recent that may be of interest to Tennessee's firearms owners, property owners, and law enforcement communities.

One opinion (18-04) addresses questions regarding the carrying or possession of firearms in public parks, playgrounds, civic centers or other city or county owned public venues.  The opinion is rather shallow but it does address 4 specific questions. One of the areas where the opinion is "elusive" is whether the express limiting language of Tennessee Code Ann. § 39-17-1311(a) has any effect as to weapons not identified in Tennessee Code Ann. § 39-17-1302(a).

A second opinion (18-22) address whether off-duty law enforcement officers, who are simply "civilians" while off-duty, have special privileges to carry firearms at time and in places where other citizens are prohibited from carrying firearms even if they have state issued handgun carry permits.

Tennessee Firearms Association's 2018 candidate survey

Tennessee Firearms Association released its 2018 survey questions and responses in May.

It is important for voters to realize that many incumbents and others seeking public office either failed or refused to answer these specific questions about where they stand on 2nd Amendment issues.  Perhaps they did not respond because they know, unlike other organizations, that TFA actually shares both the questions and the survey responses to the public (rather than issuing a subjective "grade").

None of the Democrat candidates for governor responded to the survey. None of the four major Republican candidates for governor responded either.

You can view the survey questions and responses on the TFA's website on the 2018 Survey Response post.

Please forward and share this email to encourage others to participate as well.
