Hi There,

I am super excited that in the next few weeks I will be announcing a new team program that is different than anything you have ever seen and will change the way your team works together forever. Stay tuned :)

Last week I shared an excerpt from my book You Are the Team around the need for teams to spread positive gossip. I got a lot of great reactions and feedback to that post. I want to share with you another excerpt from one of my favorite stories of all time on the power of being a positive teammate—the fourth B. Enjoy! And feel free to share it with your teams.

In a remote Japanese village, there was a happy and energetic little puppy that heard of a place called “The Palace of 1,000 Mirrors” and decided to pay a visit. When he arrived, he playfully bounced up the steep stairs to the open door of the house. He entered the palace with his ears perked and his tail wagging very fast. To his surprise, this little puppy found 1,000 other happy puppies just like him, all of who were also wagging their tails just as he was.

He gave a great big smile and found the other 1,000 dogs smiling right back, which made him smile even bigger. The bigger he smiled and the faster he wagged his tail, the more the other 1,000 puppies smiled and wagged their tails.

As he left the palace, he said to himself, “What a wonderful place! I must come back and visit again.”

In the same village, there was an older and very grumpy dog. He also decided to visit the palace of 1,000 mirrors. As he approached the door with his sad head hung low, he looked up and found 1,000 other grumpy and unhappy dogs staring back at him. He growled and was frightened by the other dogs growling at him. He quickly left and said to himself, “That place is dreadful and a bit terrifying. I won’t ever go back again.”1

Your attitude as a teammate is important to your team’s success. If you are always frowning and spreading negativity, you will most likely get frowns and negativity back. If you rarely take the time to see the good in others, very few will see the good in you. And if you don’t take the time to compliment others, you will rarely get a compliment in return.
