Sure-Fit Designs Inspiration

Hello there sewing friends! It’s Anna from Canada.  I hope you are having a great week. Spring is just around the corner.   I can’t wait to start making floral outfits!
This month, I wanted to share inspirations for not only the advanced sewers but also the beginner sewers alike.
Today we are focusing on collars.  Did you know that the Dress Kit has 5 different collars you can pick and choose to make your outfits even more beautiful?  The Collar Collection Master Patterns are included in the Dress Kit.

Be an inspiration for others and strut your stuff!

There are 5 different collars to pick from: Peter Pan, Collar for stand, Standing Collar, Mandarin, Rolled Convertible Collar and the Rolled Collar with Attached Stand.  Below, you'll see some garment examples of 4 different collar applications.
To draft the collar for your outfit, please watch this video:

Lynn's Comments:
Lynn sent some tips and tricks: “I had purchased a nice looking jacket pattern online which I had intended to adapt using my SFD blueprint but when it arrived I found that it had drop sleeves - not very flattering for someone of my frame. So I thought what the heck - I will make my own darn pattern - I can do this! I followed Glenda's excellent guidelines on adding ease - pg. 35 of the Dress Kit instruction book on Jacket/Coat designing and used my blueprint sloper to create a princess line jacket pattern.  I made up a muslin and drew on the muslin my preferred yoke placement and from that created the extra pattern pieces. I used the commercial collar pattern that I had purchased but felt that it was over-large so redrew a smaller version more to my taste. I moved the grainline on the sleeve so that it ran parallel to the upper sleeve seam as I understand that this can discourage sleeves from twisting and I think that this was a successful move. To create a nice finish inside I sewed up using french seams. Attaching the collar was tricky as I wanted to cover the raw edges inside with the yoke fabric. The stud fastenings were easy to attach and go well with the denim.  It didn't take me long to draw up and test my pattern but it was a week or more I enjoyed the process and my head is buzzing with what to have a go at next ”.
As you can see...
There's been lots of activity resulting in wonderful sewing projects.  Thanks go to each of you who contributed to our Monthly Makes.  Make sure you contribute your makes to Anna (in Canada) for the upcoming April Monthly Makes newsletter.  Just send photos and a few comments to to be included.
