Subject: Are you game for Summer Reading?😎

A first look at this year's prizes!

Are you game for summer reading?

The weather is getting warmer, and that means one thing... summer reading is coming soon! In fact, it's coming up next week 😲

This year's summer reading theme is Level Up at Your Library, based around puzzles and games. (In games, players "level up" to get stronger and gain new skills.) Play is one of the ways we learn to relate to others, to think in new ways, and to foster friendships. Level Up at Your Library reminds us that libraries are not just a space for knowledge... they're a space for fun!

Welcome Back

If you participated last year, you can log in with the same account! We can reset lost passwords over the phone (860-828-7126) or in person.

Just like last year, you earn 1 virtual ticket for every book you read. When you submit a book online, you can choose to put the ticket in a raffle basket, or save it up to redeem for prizes in the prize cart. Your books also count towards your team's total—keep scrolling for more info!

Want a paper booklet? You can pick up a copy at the Adult Reference Desk or download the booklet (and extra pages). The booklet is optional, but it has all the important information in one place—plus a reading log for your personal use.

Be a Team Player

Since the theme is all about games, why not play as a team?

When you sign up for summer reading, you’ll be randomly sorted into one of seven teams. Throughout the summer, each book you submit online will count toward your team’s total. Here's a sneak peek at the teams...

We’ll be tracking team progress on a giant game board at the library, updated on Thursdays. It's not ready yet, but keep an eye on the Local History Room window in front of the circulation desk. Each space on the board equals 10 books read. As your team’s board game piece moves forward, it will unlock prizes each time it lands on one of the prize spaces.

(If this sounds like a lot of work, don't worry! All you need to do is read and log your books. We’ll take care of the rest.)

In Other News

We're once again working with BEAT (that's the Berlin Equity Action Team) to organize a Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 21. Juneteenth is a national holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. The holiday itself is on June 19, which is a Wednesday this year, and the library will be closed.

Rules Refresher

Remember to review the rules before logging books.

Does your book qualify? You must be able to answer 'yes' to these questions:

  • Did you start reading it on or after June 16?

  • Is it a book, ebook, audiobook, or graphic novel?

  • Is it at your general reading level?

If we find that a participant is not following the program rules, we will send one reminder. If they do not provide a satisfactory response, they may be disqualified from winning raffles for the rest of the summer, and questionable books may have their tickets deactivated. Disqualified books and participants will still appear on the summer reading website.
