Subject: Paid illustrator opportunity: Alice in Wonderland Adventure (Story City)

Hi Friend,

We’re currently looking for an illustrator for our upcoming Alice in Wonderland-themed event/adventure within the Story City app. This is a paid opportunity, with final compensation based on the project’s asset breakdown, and we’re seeking one illustrator to help bring this adventure to life.

Story City creates location-based storytelling experiences where your city becomes the setting of our story. This particular project will be part of a live, in-person event launching this August, where players will experience the adventure in real time through the app.

Project Details

Compensation: $800–$1,000 (final amount will depend on asset breakdown)

Deliverables:

  • 8–10 illustrations (with potential reused/remixed elements)

  • A small set of badges/stickers/achievement-style assets

Creative Direction

Style range: Semi-realism to heavily stylized

Tone: Darker, slightly mature, but with room for humor and playful absurdity

We’re looking for artists comfortable designing both:

  • Human characters

  • Creature/fantastical characters

As well as:

  • Atmospheric, textured backgrounds

  • Strong character expressions

  • Dynamic visual storytelling

Submission Requirements

To be considered, please submit:

  • Your portfolio (website, social media, or Google Drive link)

  • A short 15–30 second, minimalistic animatic/animation sample showcasing character motion and expression

This does not need to be complex — even simple static illustrations with expressive movement are welcome. We’re mainly looking for your ability to create lively, emotionally expressive scenes.

For reference, here are a few examples of the illustration + motion style we’re aiming for. Your style does not need to match these — they’re simply meant to show the kind of expressive movement pairing we’d like to create: Example 1, Example 2, Example 3, Example 4.

Timeline

You must be ready to begin as soon as the draft script is delivered on June 30 and be comfortable working within a tight production timeline:

  • Script available: June 30

  • Draft illustrations due: July 12

  • Final illustrations due: July 25

Submission deadline: June 30 at 11:59 PM.

If interested, please submit your materials here 👉 Call of Illustrators.

Please feel free to share this with any illustrators you think would be a strong fit.

Appreciate you,

Emily & the Story City Team
