Subject: Staf's September e-News

Hi Friend,

August has been an exciting month for us - we are delighted to announce that Staf have been awarded three years' funding from the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation to work with members and their care experienced young people to support the development of a benchmarking tool for relationship-based practice. If you would like to be involved in this project, please email Pamela@staf.scot to register your interest.

Time is running out to take part in our Staf Membership survey! You only have two more weeks to let us know your views on Staf and the events we run. Your views will influence Staf's three year strategy, so don't delay!

All the best,

Norma

Managers' Forums and Practitioners' Gathering
This autumn’s series of managers’ forums focus on how we as a community of managers seek to develop our services, reacting to policy and sector developments and giving weight to the views of the children and young people we work with.
  • Managers' Forum (Stirling) 11th September 2018 at the Albert Halls, Stirling
At this forum we will discuss what we can learn and implement from the findings and recommendations outlined in the Frameworks Institute report on Mapping the Gaps between Expert and Public Understanding of Care Experience and the Care System in Scotland, and explore the Age of Criminal Responsibility (Scotland) Bill to understand how the changes to the minimum age of criminal responsibility will affect our services.

  • Practitioners' Gathering 30th October 2018 at the Albert Halls, Stirling
This PG is a special Care Leavers Week event, taking practitioners and young people on a journey through understanding the impact of stress on our bodies and how relaxation can help boost our confidence and self-esteem. Thanks to funding from the Life Changes Trust we can offer one free place for young people per worker.
Staf National Conference 2018
Healing from Trauma and Moving On

Listen:
Dr. Gabor Maté, Melissa Warner and Tim Adalin discuss meaning, responsibility, trauma and more in this podcast.

Watch: Told through the voices of children, learn how putting together the seven-piece jigsaw puzzle of 'Developmental Trauma' can help us understand how adverse childhood experiences have shaped emotional and outward behaviour and how this can be repaired.
