Subject: Staf Summer Newsletter

Welcome back everybody! We hope you’ve enjoyed the holidays.

Now, summer may be almost over... but here at Staf we have lots of new things to get excited about and maybe bring a little bit of sunshine back into our lives. So let us tell you about some of the events and exciting new developments coming up in the months ahead.
Staf Open Day and Launch of the Voices report "Listen…Can You Hear Their Voices?"
This event will go off with a bang as it is a celebration of our bigger, brighter office accommodation - available for our members to use - as well as the work the Voices project has achieved so far.

The event will give delegates the opportunity to see the new Staf office and will showcase the Voices' work with young people from across Scotland. It highlights some key issues facing care experienced young people and offers young people’s recommendations on these issues.
To find out more about The Voices, please contact our Young Facilitator, Simone Smith

Exploring Relationship Boundaries
Exploring ways to support and develop relationship based practice at a national level. There is often a gap between what young people want to receive from their care relationships and what can be offered. This group brings together corporate parenting practitioners from across Scotland and often has input from IRISS, Care Visions, Phil Coady and others researching good practice in this area.

Who should attend?
Members and corporate parents including Local Authorities, voluntary organisations and independent practitioners looking to enhance and develop relationship based practice within their work.

Supported Lodgings/Carers
Staf actively promotes the development of supported lodgings as a positive transitional option for young people who are looked after. These can provide a positive environment of stability and support.

Allowing young people the space to be ordinary teenagers and learn to manage a home, helps to develop a range of skills to prepare them for independent life.

Who should attend?
This group is highly recommended for providers of supported lodgings/carers services for young people. Colleagues in housing are encouraged to go.

Implications for Continuing Care
This is a really active group with a “can do attitude”that is working together to share experiences and find solutions that arise while implementing the new legal status of Continuing Care.

The Care Inspectorate will join the group on the 4th October as togther they work through the finer detail of what this new legal status means for inspection.

Who should attend?
This group is attended by the Scottish Government, Care Inspectorate, CELCIS and those working in; throughcare and aftercare teams, foster care, residential and kinship care.

Culture vs Strategy- What is More Important?
The Dinner with Dialogue is a sponsored dinner, designed to allow a range of senior stakeholders across the corporate parent organsations to have strategic conversations in relation to the Children and Young People (Scotland) Act 2014. This dinner brings together young care experienced people, local authorities, Scottish Government and leaders from sectors such as housing, health, education, children and families to discuss the issues and commit to solutions.

So, young people and senior decision makers, get out your best formal wear! As with insights into the sector, it is you who can affect change through shared thinking that responds to the input of frontline practitioners and young people.
