The 2010 vintage in Bordeaux is already etched into the history books hailed as one of the finest years of the 21st century, delivering wines with stunning concentration, perfect balance, and remarkable aging potential. It was a year where nature provided everything winemakers could hope for, an ideal growing season, pristine fruit, and a harvest that allowed each parcel to shine at its peak.
Today’s spectacular Bordeaux offer is yet another one of Kyle’s and my finds during our last trip to Wine Paris back in February. What makes this offer especially cool is that it’s 15 years old and has been perfectly aged at the estate’s underground limestone cellar, ensuring that every bottle is in immaculate condition and showing its full potential. On the label, the words “Old Wine” are proudly written, a nod to its venerable age and provenance.
From this extraordinary backdrop comes 2010 Château Bellevue, a jewel from Montagne-Saint-Émilion (just north of St. Emilion proper) with roots dating back to 1830. The estate’s vineyards stretch from the Montagne church to the Saint-Georges church, a tapestry of south-facing clay-limestone slopes that produce wines of depth, elegance, and authenticity. Once recognized as a premier cru in 1855, the château’s legacy of quality has been carried forward by the Gaury family for seven generations, with Erick Gaury now at the helm.
Sustainably farmed and HVE 3 certified, the vines are cultivated with the utmost respect for their environment. Winemaking here follows time-honored Saint-Émilion traditions: fermentation in classic concrete vats and aging in the château’s underground cellar for three to four years before bottling. |
