Terrance Hayes and Yona Harvey

Terrance Hayes is an American poet and educator who has published four poetry collections. His 2010 collection, Lighthead, won the National Book Award for Poetry in 2010. In September 2014, he was one of 21 recipients of the prestigious MacArthur fellowships awarded to individuals who show outstanding creativity in their work.

Yona Harvey is an American poet, and professor at University Of Pittsburgh. She won the 2014 Kate Tufts Discovery Award.

Come join in a full afternoon of story reading of books for young people by African, African-American, African-Caribbean and all writers of the Diaspora.

This special event is a community-wide celebration that embraces Pittsburgh’s neighborhoods from the east, west, south and the north.  Volunteer readers for the 27th National African-American Read-In include those from Pittsburgh local government; media organizations; business owners; patrons of the libraries and family members.

Let’s put Pittsburgh’s Homewood Library on the national roll call - bring your children, family members and neighbors to be part of this historical event to kick off Black History Month!

UBBCP is an association of librarians, readers and book clubs in Pittsburgh. Through a united effort, UBBCP was formed to promote literary activities and events, to provide community outreach programs and to spread the love of reading throughout the community.
