AMENDING THE MANDATORY
JUDICIAL RETIREMENT AGE

Did you know that the current age for mandatory retirement for judges is 70?  There is legislation on the November 8, 2016 ballot that would increase that age to 75.   Whether you vote yes or no, at least it is important to understand the question.

The ballot question reads:

“Shall the Pennsylvania Constitution be amended to require that justices of the Supreme Court, judges, and magisterial district judges be retired on the last day of the calendar year in which they attain the age of 75 years?”

A “yes” vote supports changing the mandatory retirement age from 70 to 75 for Supreme Court justices, judges, and justices of the peace.

A “no” vote rejects this amendment to change the mandatory retirement age at 70 for Supreme Court justices, judges, and justices of the peace.

The measure would increase the state’s mandatory judicial retirement age from 70 to 75.
