Subject: The Key to our Daughter's Recovery from Drug Addiction: SMART Recovery

Dear Friend,

Our daughter was addicted to drugs. We were at the end of our rope. We were anxious, sad and angry, all at the same time.  And we were going broke paying for her treatment.

Nothing seemed to help. She was resistant to the treatment programs we tried and she was resistant to the 12-step support groups they suggested. "I just don't feel comfortable in the groups. I don’t fit in.  This “powerless” thing just doesn’t work for me," she would tell us.

By the time she entered her third treatment program, we had just about lost hope. But this program was different. It was an evidence-based program. She received an individual treatment plan designed just for her. Among other things, her plan included an introduction to SMART Recovery.

Looking back, that was when everything changed: the day that she was introduced to a self-empowering approach to addiction recovery.

She took charge of her recovery, something we had not seen before.  In her SMART groups, she was given the tools she needed to help her overcome her addiction.  She found her motivation to change by examining her substance use and how it was interfering with her career goals and her hopes of starting a family one day.  She learned new ways of coping with urges to use drugs. She learned how to manage challenging situations without resorting to drugs.  And she began setting goals and creating an exciting future for herself.  Flash forward two years: she is now drug-free, working on her degree and looking forward to starting a career as a biological engineer!

We are more than happy to support SMART’s Annual Fund again this year.  It has been the key to our daughter's recovery. Now in its third decade, SMART provides a modern, science-based option for addiction recovery. No other peer support program does that.

Your tax deductible gift brings SMART’s modern, self-empowering recovery training program to more people, like our daughter, who are struggling to break free of addiction. We hope you will consider a year-end gift in support of this amazing program. Thank you for your support!
