Subject: 5 Ways to Take on Addiction

And help smash the stigma

Hello Friend!

This week, Take on Addiction goes LIVE. You may already be signed up, or you may be sitting on the fence. We’re here to help each and every one of you make the most of our new campaign designed to smash the stigma of addiction - of any kind.

Sign up (if you haven’t already) and pick any of these ideas below to help you on your way.

  1. Shout loud and proud - share your experiences on every platform available. Maximize your impact and challenge the beliefs of those who come across your online presence.

  2. Share your story - if you’re ready to, or familiar with, sharing your lived experience then now is a perfect time to do so. Letting others know your reason for signing up may spark a conversation with someone who needs to share their own. You may shift someone else’s perspective on addiction. You may feel more heard than ever before. While you’re at it, make sure you convey the message that addiction is a public health crisis that affects us all in some
    way.

  3. Have a single conversation - if you’d prefer to make an impact but shouting isn’t your style, challenge yourself to have one conversation in April about addiction. It could be sharing a statistic, opening up with one person about your lived experience, or it could be to comment on one of our social media posts on Facebook, Instagram, or LinkedIn. You don’t have to create the conversation; you can be part of one already begun. Adding into a conversation that stigma is a known barrier to people seeking help and treatment for addiction can make it more powerful.

  4. Volunteer - see if there are any local volunteering opportunities with us coming up. Volunteering can be a way for you to find others on a similar journey to you, or with similar goals. You may also find it empowering to surround yourself with people who are all working each day to smash the stigma of addiction.

  5. Create or join a team in Take on Addiction - strength in numbers, remember that we can amplify our power if we surround ourselves with those who have a similar goal. This way you can support each other through the month, stay accountable to your activity goal, and help one another with ideas on how to smash stigma. One thing you can point out is that peer support meetings, like SMART’s, are a free and widely available form of aftercare in the community for those who want to build recovery capital after clinical treatment.

A great question to ask yourself when choosing how to approach the challenge is “what’s my Take on Addiction?” And no matter how you choose to smash stigma this April, what matters the most is that you join us in this campaign to support those who want to find life beyond addiction.
